Nepal Trip

2 Years and 9 months

on the plane
This is Rachi's second time to be in Nepal, in her grand parent's home. She was very happy to be in Kathmandu and was fond being with koku(maternal granny), her cousins Anup, Grace, Yankeey, Atom, Aaron and other members of the family. Whenever she was taken to
the relatives' house, she was very excited seeing them and talking to them.

During the first week of our Nepal stay, it was rather hot. We drank soft drinks such as Dew, Coke, Fanta and we were given these whenever we were invited to have lunch or dinner. Rachi suffered from a minor runny stool and she did 3-4 times a day.  During the discharge time, she would cry and said her tummy is upset.  When this diarrhoel like symptom appeared I stopped these drinks and instead gave her more distilled or mineralized water. With the time she felt better and her normal stool gave a sign .

Just a week before her departure, she got chicken pox. Eventhough this communicable disease has a positive effect in boosting immune power in the child's body, it was worrying to me. Initially, Yankee, her cousin came to Ktm with the chicken pox and that got into Rachida after a week.  During her first nights, she would wake up screaming and with fever. Two nights were unbearable ones as she had a very few hours of sleep. As a mother it was frustrating to see her agony. We took Rachi twice to Dr. Wagle's clinic who was indeed a friendly and matured doctor.

She spent her days playing with Yankee, tumma, her cousins and other relatives. Whenever she was hungry, she looked for her grandma. Once grandma's bedroom flung open, Yankeey and Rachida rushed to her room as they know that grandma's room has so many interesting things such as varied colors shawls, cosmetics, and many eye-catchy stuff that can spellbind them. For them being in her room was like being in a magical place.

Koku's store room - this was also one of the fascinating place for these kids. Rachi knows that koku puts goodies there and in no time koku opens this particular room, Rachi and Yankee would both hurriedly rush to the room pushing one another. They would marvel around and were amazed to see koku's old stuff but in a good condition. She particulary showed interest on the bronze pitcher.

Garce and Anup engaged Rachi whenever I was out. Rachi would call them only with their names without di or dada to whom they were like her friends of her age. Once when Anup trying to close the door, Rachi trapped her finger on the door and crying she said, " Naughty Anup made me aiyaa" and for a couple of hours she denied to play or talk with him.

This time she was able to visit most of her relatives from her maternal side. She greeted them with Namaste and a smile. They in turn were amazed and pleased to see Rachi performing in a matured way.  They praised her how nice or matured she was and how customarily she was brought up eventhough she spoke the foreign language. Her koku was amazed to see her converse in English.

Being with a lot of people beside her, she was also able to grasp some Nepalese words and sentences.  Some of them are:
Sanam uncle & Dina fupu
- Yankeey, दिदिको हो (whenever Yankeey tried taking her shoes) Sometime she was agitated with Yankeee and then in a raised voice she said, " Naughty Yankee, go away."

Way to relative's house
She and Yankee danced in Simple simple kanchi ko. They both were very fond of this song.

During her first weeks, she only came to mommy when she was to be fed or when it was her bed time. I on the otherhands was busy on my agendas. The other time she was surrounded by her cousins and relatives and she was over the moon to be beside her.

In the plane, she did not bother me. Instead she enjoyed the view from the window and watched the newspapers and talked with me. Sometime she talked with the flight stewards and the passengers. She had a good sleep after her lunch and dinner and that gave me som time to clear my mind.
